What Does Investing to Save Energy Do For Me?

We all want a cleaner, greener planet. Each of us yearns to spend less on our power bill, BUT we all know that energy efficiency costs money. And we only like to spend money frivolously on things we really want. No one will invest in home efficiency until they get some satisfactory answers.

Questions and concerns leap to mind like…
  • Who needs the aggravation?
  • Does investing in energy efficiency make sense for me?
  • What is such a project going to cost?
  • How am I going to afford to save all that money?
  • How much energy can I save in my home?
  • Who can you trust to tell you this?
  • How do you know they are not just trying to extract money out of your wallet?
  • How much money can I save?
  • How do I know I am not just being served up BS?
  • I can’t afford an energy efficient home, it sounds very expensive, times are tough, I am just getting by now.

These are all very important questions and heart felt concerns. You need real answers not just hype and happy talk. Well, practical answers are coming and there is good news. You can save money and you can be green.

There are effective ways to verify energy saving claims and prove results. You don’t have to rely on trust.

Working Together We can Save Billions of Dollars

We can save billions of Dollars right here in Texas. The energy wasted each year in Texas is worth big bucks. Billions can be saved by improving the energy efficiency of homes and buildings in Texas.

Let's see the numbers, you say. Well, the numbers will be coming. I will need your help. You and I can do it. I don’t have all the answers, I don’t even have all the right questions. But with our collected wits, we can put dollars and cents to the energy plumes rising out of homes and the dizzying spin of our electric meters. Anybody else tired of really high utility bills?

Let work on just a portion of the basic calculation here.

There are millions of homes in Texas. There is a gap in our homes between potential energy savings in each home and our actual energy use. This gap can be estimated for different styles and ages of homes and their prevalence in Texas. We will have to make a few assumptions. A smart statistician with sufficient data could give us the average percentage of potential saving here in Texas.

We could then compare this statistical differential to the number of watts used in households in Texas and get a clear idea of the power that we are using needlessly.
We can then calculate this waste in $$$...

OR measure this differential in numbers of nuclear reactors that are needed to produce this energy…

OR in the number of coal fired plants needed to produce this energy...

OR the number of wind turbines… well, I hope you get my drift.

Energy efficiency is by far the most effective way for Texans to help solve an energy crisis in our part of the world. Energy efficiency saves you money on the energy never wasted and capital expenses of paying for generation capacity not needed.

In the near future, we will talk about why more attention is not paid to energy efficiency, but that is another day…

Now, I will get started. I am hopeful that resources can be found to give us these statistics. This is a critical measure. It is a clear focus on a key problem. Lets see how we do.
